Compound Leaves
A compound leaf is a leaf of a plant that consists of several or many distinct parts called leaflets that are joined to a single stem. There are many different types of compound leaves, and here we will focus on three main types.

Ohio Native Compound Leafed Trees
Above are three leaves of different trees with compound leaves. Though it may look otherwise, each photo shown above is of only ONE leaf. Each piece that branches from the main stem pictured is called a leaflet.
The leaf on the left are those of the Ohio Buckeye, and are an example of a palmately compound leaf.
The middle leaf is that of the Black Locust, which is an example of a singly pinnately compound leaf.
The leaf on the right is that of the Kentucky Coffeetree, and is an example of a bi-pinnately compound leaf.
