Leaf Margins

LEAF MARGINS

Types of Leaf Margins

Each of the tree images above showcases a different type of leaf margin you may encounter. They are also all members of the Quercus genus, meaning they are all Oak trees.

On the left is the Shingle Oak. This is an example of an entire margin, or a smooth margin.

The middle image is a Red Oak, which has lobed margins.

The image on the right is that of the Chinkapin Oak, which has toothed or serrated margins.

Click on the images above to navigate to the respective pages that discuss that leaf’s margin type. Note that there is not a page for smooth margins, as they are easy to identify.
